Many tour operators include this within their ticket prices, but be sure to check with your airline before you depart.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Main airlines that include departure tax within their holiday costs:<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Thomas Cook<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">British Airways<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Virgin Atlantic<\/span><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Need to know:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>In <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">May 2019 TUI, previously known as Thomson, will also include departure tax within their holiday costs.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Your exit tax will be paid at the check-in desk as you&#8217;re leaving Mexico in either Mexican Peso, US Dollars or Sterling. Please note, you can&#8217;t pay by card or cheque.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How much is the tax to get out of Mexico?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The prices are subject to change, but currently the departure tax sits at $1,150 Mexican Peso, which is roughly $65 or \u00a350 per person, depending on the exchange rate.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">However, your hotel or resort rep will be able to keep you up-to-date with any changes during your stay.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Although being stuck in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.broadwaytravel.com\/mexico\">Mexico<\/a> swimming with the turtles and drinking cocktails out of coconuts is a dream come true, if you don\u2019t pay your departure tax you can\u2019t leave the country. On your flight to Mexico you\u2019ll be asked to fill in a tourist card this will come with your immigration form, where you\u2019ll provide information such as your passport details, flight number, hotel name and length of stay.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Unlike your immigration form, each passenger must have a tourist card each \u2013 including children. If you have any issues filling in these details, your flight attendant will be on hand to help and there will be allocated time at the end of your flight for any queries.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Upon your entry to Mexico you\u2019ll hand these forms in at the immigration desk, you\u2019ll then be asked to keep your tourist card and the other half of your immigration form. We recommend keeping these with your passport in your hotel safe.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Top tip:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Plan ahead and fill your tourist and immigration card out online:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\nhttps:\/\/www.mexicotouristcard.com\/\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\nhttps:\/\/www.inm.gob.mx\/fmme\/publico\/en\/solicitud.html\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On your return home, you\u2019ll pay your departure tax in the check-in queue, where you\u2019ll hand in your tourist and immigration card along with the funds, and voila it\u2019s as easy as that.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What happens if I lose my tourist card?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Worst case scenario, you can purchase a replacement from the bank which will cost roughly $500 Mexican Pesos, which is roughly \u00a320.00. Alternatively, you\u2019ll be fined at the airport. You simply need to pay the departure tax on your return home \u2013 this does not have to be paid in advance.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What about the kids?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Children are not exempt from paying departure tax, the only exception to the rule is if your child doesn\u2019t require a seat on the plane.
