You\u2019ll find 125 miles of sandy shoreline, which varies from black to white and is lapped by crystal clear water.<\/p>\n

But, to help you decide where to settle down and soak up the sun, here are the best beaches in Fuerteventura<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>1. Sotavento Beach<\/h2>\n

\"Sotavento<\/p>\n

Where is it? <\/em><\/strong>In Costa Calma on the southeast coast<\/p>\n

Why go?<\/strong> <\/em>\u00a0The most famous and longest beach on the island is considered among many to be the best. Here you\u2019ll find unspoilt, soft powdery white sand and warm turquoise water that doesn\u2019t dip below 21\u00b0C even during the winter months.<\/p>\n

Sotavento Beach is split into several parts including Playa Risco del Paso and Playa Barca. It\u2019s a surfer\u2019s paradise due to the windy conditions, although this means those back on the beach will need to look for a sheltered spot, which is possible thanks to the dunes. This part of the sea attracts professionals who wish to ride the waves but it\u2019s also perfect for novices – there are two Ren\u00e9 Egli surf centres, if you\u2019d like to learn.<\/p>\n

The shallow water is ideal for families with little ones although it\u2019s worth noting that it\u2019s also a popular beach with naturists.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

\"Costa<\/a><\/h2>\n

How to get here: <\/em><\/strong>If you\u2019re driving take exit KM-72 off the FV2. You can also travel by bus or walk, if you\u2019re staying in Costa Calma.<\/p>\n

Need to know: <\/em><\/strong>If you\u2019re here in July, this beach hosts the Windsurfing and Kiteboarding World Cup.\u00a0<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

2. Cofete Beach<\/h2>\n

Where is it?<\/strong> <\/em>South coast, in Cofete National Park on the Jandia Peninsula \u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

Why go? <\/em><\/strong>This is the perfect place to escape the crowds for a moment of peace, as this 12-mile stretch of sand is one of the quieter and more isolated beaches.\u00a0<\/em>The Jandia Mountains, which reach heights of 800 metres, provide a beautiful backdrop to this wild and rugged part of the coastline, which has been named among the most beautiful in Europe. Lay down your towel and enjoy this idyllic setting as you take in the incredible scenery.<\/p>\n

Facilities: <\/em><\/strong>You\u2019ll need to bring everything you require for a day at the beach, including plenty of water and a picnic.<\/p>\n

How to get here:<\/strong> <\/em>There is a 12-mile dirt track that you\u2019ll need to travel down so you may need a four-wheel car to reach this isolated stretch of sand.\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Need to know: <\/em><\/strong>This beach isn\u2019t suitable for swimming because the waves are incredibly high and the current is very strong.\u00a0<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The beach is split into several sections, the south is popular with nudists, while the north is much more family-friendly. The beach closest to the Corralejo is ideal for watersports, particularly windsurfing and kiteboarding.\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Need to know: <\/em><\/strong>From Corralejo, it\u2019s 10 minutes on the ferry across to uninhabited Lobos Island \u2013 a protected nature reserve. Don\u2019t forget your snorkel \u2013 there are brightly coloured fish to be seen in the water here. Back on land, it\u2019ll only take a couple of hours to explore the isolated stretches of sand.\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

4. Gran Tarajal Beach\u00a0<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Where is it? <\/em><\/strong>Southeast of the island, half an hour from Costa Calma \u00a0<\/em>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

Why go? <\/em><\/strong>This Blue Flag beach boasts the darkest sand on the island, it\u2019s worth a trip here to see that alone. The majority of people who spend the day on this beach are locals, which makes it great for an authentic experience too. The colourful buildings provide a beautiful backdrop to an already incredibly picturesque beach.<\/p>\n

If you like seafood, this is the perfect place to sample it fresh because it\u2019s caught just off the shoreline. After a day of building sandcastles and paddling in the turquoise waters, make your way up to the promenade where you\u2019ll be able to try this delicious delicacy.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

Facilities: <\/em><\/strong>Showers, toilets, restaurants, a volleyball net and a playground.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

How to get here: <\/em><\/strong>You can drive but you\u2019ll have to park a short distance from the beach in the town.\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Need to know: <\/em><\/strong>The sand can get very hot here due to its dark colour, so it\u2019s advisable to keep flip flops on when walking around.\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

5. El Castillo Beach<\/h2>\n

Where is it?<\/strong> <\/em>Caleta de Fuste, just 15 minutes from the capital, Puerto del Rosario \u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

Why go?<\/em> <\/strong>Also known as \u2018Shank\u2019s Shark,\u2019 this bay is 800 metres of golden sand and calm waters. It\u2019s set up for pure relaxation and perfect for families, especially those travelling with youngsters. There\u2019s an area in the water for swimming and a separate section for watersports. Jet skis, pedalos, kayaks and canoes are all waiting to entertain you.<\/p>\n

There is also a windsurfing centre \u2013 ideal for professionals and those who want to give the sport a go.<\/p>\n

Just off this beach there are two reefs, Salinas Reef and Castillo Reef, where you can snorkel or scuba dive to discover the brightly coloured world beneath the surface of the water.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

\"Caleta<\/a><\/p>\n

Facilities:<\/strong> <\/em>Lifeguard, restaurants, bars, sunloungers and parasols. \u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

How to get here: <\/em><\/strong>This beach is only a short distance from the airport, making it the perfect place to head if you want to feel the sand between your toes as soon as you land, or before you have to leave. There is parking if you\u2019re driving as well as bus and taxi stops, if you\u2019re using public transport.\u00a0 \u00a0<\/em>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

Need to know:<\/em><\/strong> In the marina you\u2019ll find Oceanarium Explorer where you can see and swim with sea lions. You can also board a boat here, which will take you to see turtles, dolphins and whales.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
