With a raised position, this 5 star beauty prides itself on its sensational views of the Atlantic Ocean and surrounding Cabo Girão hillside, the highest in Europe. Guests can also enjoy a premium experience with three themed a la cartes specialising in local, Asian and Italian fare.

The pool tends to receive the most attention, mainly for its idyllic setting overlooking the hotel’s sensational surroundings, while its swim-up bar is the perfect place to stay hydrated when Madeira’s subtropical temperatures are at their hottest. Those wanting to explore the archipelago’s many highlights, should start with the capital Funchal, which is just 15 minutes down the road.

Rooms featuring bespoke furnishings

Despite its traditional feel the hotel’s in-room decor is extremely inviting with a light colour palette and Mediterranean textiles. While, its wooden touches are the epitome of old-world glamour. Guests can choose from classic, deluxe, superior options or suites, each equipped with the basic necessities.

From air conditioning to a separate bathroom and LCD TV, you’re invited to relax in pure comfort. You can also opt for stays with incredible views, we’re talking Atlantic Ocean meets verdant mountain views from your very own private balcony – now that’s what we call an upgrade.

Food and drinks with a view

There’s a number of dining and drinking options at Pestana Royal Premium Ocean & Spa Resort, all promising laid-back evenings in beautiful settings. Offering four restaurants, a poolside bar and a late-night lounge – we hope you have a boundless appetite.

San Lourenco Garden Terrace:This is the hotel’s international buffet restaurant, sample delicious pastries for breakfast, hit the fresh salad bar for lunch and indulge in beautifully presented seafood for dinner. The restaurant also has a different theme every night, so you don’t have to worry about repetitive options.

Campo de Fiori: With a set menu featuring a host of Italian classics, expect dishes prepared to the highest standard. Located on the sixth floor, you can dine here from 7pm to 10pm.

Bamboo: Open from 7pm – 10pm, this a la carte eatery specialises in Asian cuisine. Here, guests can enjoy waiter service and stunning garden views. Tuck into delicious options such as Japenese style meat and handmade sushi.

Botanic: Promising a delicious local menu and designed to reflect the island’s natural beauty with its tropical garden setting with plants and birds surrounding you as you eat, guests can head here from 7pm -10pm.

Sunset Pool Bar: Found on the third floor right by the pool, this is the best place to witness Madeira’s incredible sunsets with a cocktail in hand. Open from 11am – 7pm, it’s your go-to for daytime drinks and snacks.

Spa access and mini golf

When you’re not discovering what this scenic destination has to offer, your hotel has a great choice of facilities worth getting out of bed for. The pool’s large size is perfect for long sunbathing sessions come afternoon, not to mention it faces the ocean, so you can admire your picturesque surroundings as you relax. There’s also a seperate section for mini swimmers where they can splash around for hours.

But nothing says family holiday like the mini golf course situated in the hotel’s grounds. Get the whole clan involved and see if you can top the score card with a hole-in-one, or show off you racket skills with a game of tennis. The hotel’s smallest guests will appreciate the onsite playground and a kids’ club where they’ll be surrounded by children of a similar age.

We also suggest making the most of your fantastic location with the seafront offering fantastic watersports and snorkeling adventures. Bike hire is another must for anyone wanting to see the scenic delights of Madeira from two wheels.

Minutes from Madeira’s largest beach

With Praia Formosa Beach, Madeira’s largest shore on your doorstep, it’s pretty hard to top this hotel’s location. Despite its black colour, this two kilometre stretch has plenty of amenities, while you’ll find a great selection of beach bars featuring terraces along the promenade.

You’re also just 10 minutes down the road from the centre of Funchal, where you’ll be welcomed by some of the most dramatic backdrops thanks to its tropical gardens, thrilling toboggan rides, which date back to 1850, and the finest wine with its age-old cellars.
