From traditional tavernas by the sea to gourmet restaurants cooking international fare, the dining options in and around Perfkos are vast. After all, eating out is a national pastime in Greece. In addition to established favourites like moussaka and souvláki, be sure to try the island’s fresh seafood such as baby squid, mussels and cockles. Rhodes is also one of Greece’s wine-producing islands and makes a type of champagne in both brut and demi-sec versions. Fiery spirits including ouzo and raki are often served as a digestif after meals.

Pefkos has several beaches to choose from, each of which boasts inviting golden sand that’s backed by lush pine trees. The main beach beckons visitors with two rows of sun loungers and umbrellas. Several bars, restaurants and watersport facilities aren’t far away either. Head to the far end of Pefkos beach and you’ll encounter some rocky coves, which are perfect for a spot of swimming. The nearby St Thomas Beach is ideal for snorkelling, while Fokia Bay often plays host to sea lions.

The compact resort of Pefkos is all about sun, sea and sand. Those that do choose to leave its Blue Flag beaches can expect plenty of history and culture nearby. Watersport fans also have plenty to keep them busy with kite-surfing and windsurfing on offer.

Explore historic Rhodes Town: Rhodes Town lies within imposing medieval fortifications, which were built by the Nights of St John. Today, its a UNESCO World Heritage site featuring cobbled streets bursting at the seams with rustic tavernas and souvenir shops. The top attraction is the expansive 14th century Palace of the Grand Masters, where you can explore a museum that traces the island’s history.

Head to the waterpark: The gentle and shallow waters of Pefkos beach are ideal for young children. But more adventurous families might be tempted by Faliraki Water Park around 22 miles north of Pefkos. It is said to be one of the biggest water parks in Europe with numerous pools and slides, which are bound to keep kids entertained for hours on end.

Learn about Greek history: Just two miles northeast of Pefkos lies the hillside village of Lindos, which is made up of beautiful whitewashed houses and churches. Take an excursion to Lindos by a glass-bottomed boat and learn more about its acropolis, perched 380 feet above the village. Ancient Greek moments including the fourth-century-BC Temple of Athena Lindia can also be found here.
