Food & drink in Tallinn

There are endless things that locals love to eat and drink, and alcohol is definitely a favourite beverage in Estonia. While shots of vodka will be served alongside most meals, everyone’s weak spot is still the classic sweet tastes. Estonia is known for chocolate, particularly if it’s sourced locally, so why not hunt for some chocolate from Tallinn and treat your taste buds? Whether you’re after it for yourself or if you want to take it home and gift it, finding locally made chocolate will be worth your time. Another dish – which doesn’t always look appetising – is sprats. The Baltic Sea is filled with tiny, oily sea fish otherwise known as sprats, and they prove very popular as an evening dinner dish. Served on dark bread, with boiled eggs and sauce, it sounds like a weird mixture, but it’s one of the favourite go-to dishes in Tallinn.

Pirita Promenade is a popular beach for the views rather than the seaside experience. It’s located next to a long stretch of pathway with a park metres away, making it one of the perfect spots in the city. It’s a favourite for pedestrians and cyclists, particularly because of the ability to look out into the city centre over the sea. Although it’s not where you’d go if you plan to swim in the sea, it’s the perfect spot for pictures. The beaches in Tallinn are quite small and are often just on the edge of the ocean, but it’s still good for tourists to come and visit. It’s ideal for fun days out, a stroll along the seafront and picnics.
