Why visit: As a former Portuguese Ministry of Finance building, It’s safe to say this nightclub has an interesting past which is worlds away from its present-day events. Ministerium Club has seen some big-name DJs come through its doors, despite its limited saturday-only opening times.
Playing a mix of house and techno music, partiers can dance to their favourite beats until the club closes in the early hours of the morning. Fairly new to the Lisbon clubbing circuit with its 2012 opening, this popular venue is now regarded one of the city’s hippest settings. From a large dancefloor to a cosy lounge and rooftop bar – this much-loved spot invites you to enjoy the ultimate night out.

Ideally situated in the sought-after district Chiado, By the Wine is the first of its kind. It’s the flagship store of the prestigious José Maria da Fonseca name, Portugal’s oldest wine company. With so many beverages on offer you may wonder where to start – Right Said Fred and Apple and Eve always go down a treat if you don’t want something too adventurous.

Why visit: Everything about this place is unique from its performances to its decor and atmosphere. Set in a former brothel, don’t be put off by its red light district location. Pensão Amor has a shabby chic feel with over-the-top decor and ceiling paintings drawing you in.
Its burlesque performances are a big part of its appeal with crimson walls and hanging chandeliers remissant of a traditional cabaret club. Spread over three floors, this quirky establishment is full of surprises including kissing booths, a pole dancing room and a gigantic stag’s head overlooking the dancefloor.

What to expect: As Lisbon’s coolest month, the weather in January is pretty unpredictable. That said, the city doesn’t see as many visitors at this time of year but that doesn’t mean the fun stops. What to expect: With temperatures steadily on the rise and greater daylight hours, April is a fantastic time to sample the local nightlife. Clubs and bars will start to feel busier with more and more tourists choosing to travel. However, those planning on staying out late may want to carry a lightweight jacket as evening temperatures can feel a lot cooler.

What to expect: You can enjoy less rain than April as you’re now entering Portugal’s drier months. Holidaymakers can also benefit from a mild evening climate with outdoor terraces beginning to fill up and many of the city’s rooftop bars opening their doors. This is also when Rock in Rio takes place, a five-day rock festival which has been running for five consecutive years.

What to expect: June brings the arrival of summer, which also means a rise in tourist numbers. What to expect: You’re now into peak season, so as you can imagine the crowds will be a lot larger. With bars and clubs catering to an influx of holidaymakers, expect big-name acts and international DJs among the city’s events. This is also a great time to take advantage of Lisbon’s many outdoor terraces with temperatures staying mild late into the night.

August
What to expect: As the capital’s warmest month , you won’t be short of things to do. Locals tend to escape the city at this time of year in favour of Portugal’s Algarve beach resorts, which means the streets shouldn’t feel overcrowded. Again, Lisbon’s most popular nightspots can get extremely busy so we suggest arriving early. Meanwhile, Jazz em Agosto is a must-visit if you’re a fan of swing music.

What to expect: By the time October comes around the crowds start to dwindle, making it the perfect duration to visit the city’s biggest nightspots. November
What to expect:. November is a very mixed month in terms of weather with rain and sun making an appearance. However, the nightlife doesn’t slow down with plenty of locals still hitting its clubs and bars during the winter.

December
What to expect: As one of the coldest and wettest months, Lisbon doesn’t see as many tourists in December. Since you’re travelling in off-season you can expect lower prices, for instance, events are often cheaper. Meanwhile, the Portuguese adore Christmas, so there’s plenty going on around the city to mark the build-up from concerts to markets.
And if you happen to be there for New Year’s Eve, the festivities are in full swing with a free firework display in Terreiro do Paço.
